Sentry Gun Evalutation

The sentry gun project has been teased even since last year and I was happy to finally be tackling it, unfortunately I wasn’t fast enough to complete the project in its entirety. Working with high poly models and baking maps from them onto a low poly model was a process completely new to me, and for the majority of the project I didn’t really understand any of it and felt like I was just randomly clicking buttons and hoping for the best. This led me to not being able to create a blueprint for my UE4 level and as it stands my sentry is just a static model.
As I didn’t understand the way a normal map bake works I wasn’t able to construct my low poly to be optimal for the process and came out with a result that I feel could have been better. Issues arise such as me not understanding the use of floaters, so I was modelling straight onto the high poly causing smoothing errors and wasting tragic amounts of time, when I could create the floating geometry in a fraction of the time.
Although I was able to provide a concept in a more streamlined approach focusing on developing ideas that had potential rather than just coming up with ideas just for the sake of it. Although my marks will be effected by this project, I’m maintaining positive outlook, I liked my design and the final product, as well as developing an understanding on vital processes.
